Independent. Without

Our Position

The 1987 Committee is an independent institute. We are not affiliated with any political party, government body, or commercial organisation. We do not accept funding that compromises our editorial, research, or advocacy independence.

Our name reflects a moment in Labour Party history, and our founding membership is rooted in Labour's tradition of racial equality campaigning. But we hold every party to the same standard on race and representation  including Labour. Our research is published without fear or favour. Our convening is open to voices across the political spectrum. Our advocacy follows the evidence, not the whip.

Where we partner with organisations, we publish the nature of those partnerships. Where we receive funding, we disclose the source. Where we take positions, we show our working.

Independence is not a badge. It is a discipline. We exercise it in everything we publish, everyone we platform, and every decision we make about where the Committee speaks and where it stays silent.

If you have questions about our funding, governance, or editorial processes, contact us at info@1987committee.com.

We hold every party to the same standard on race and representation — including Labour.

The work of 1987
isn't finished.

The representation gap is measurable. The causes are known. The solutions exist. The only question is whether enough people care enough to close it.  That’s what we’re here for.
